Pulse shooting: Nearly 1,000 attend candlelight vigil in Gainesville

June 14, 2016

The LGBTQ community in Orlando experienced a tragedy of the worst kind - the deadliest mass shooting by a single gunman in U.S. history. Pulse, a gay nightclub, turned into a war zone when a gunman began firing, killing 49 people and injuring 53. The massacre was denounced as an act of terrorism as well as a hate crime.

Since then, there have been vigils held around the world in honor of those killed. Nearly 1,000 people packed the courtyard in front of Gainesville City Hall Monday evening for a vigil organized by the Pride Community Center.
