Get picking for blackberry season

With season starting at the end of May and running through June, blackberries are ripe in Marion county and U-Pick operations are thriving.

Today, I got to visit a farm that is almost 100 years old with over 4,000 blackberry plants. Wet Hammock Farm added blackberries to the farm five years ago and has since grown to about 2 1/2 acres of the plump dark purple fruit.

Families from all locations and backgrounds stop by to pick their own fresh fruit. It costs $5 per pound.

Above, nanny Lotte Hellebuyck, 21, helps Mila Mazzoni, 2, fill her bucket with blackberries at Wet Hammock Farm in Citra, Fla. Talk about a sweet nanny gig.
